Prisoner’s Daughter, the new movie from the director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight), is about Maxine (Kate Beckinsale), a mother struggling to make ends meet while caring for her teenage son, Ezra. She allows her estranged father, Max (Brian Cox, Succession) to live with her after being released from jail since he is dying.

I talked to Christopher Convery, who plays Ezra, about playing dramatic roles as a teen actor, how his background in boxing came in handy for the part, starting a band, learning from Tyson Ritter, who is also an actor and musician, and how Kate Beckinsale gave him the best wrap gift.

Prisoner’s Daughter is now playing in theatres. Get tickets here.
