Spotify and Genius expand “Behind The Lyrics” to Android

spotify_genius

“Behind The Lyrics,” Spotify’s feature that brings up facts and a deeper background to song lyrics, will now be on Android as well. Originally only available on iPhone when it was released in January 2016, this is the first time it was on Android.

I’m a huge fan of both Spotify and Genius. I love reading lyrics and getting to know random factoids about the song, the thought process of the lyrics, etc. Having that integrated while I’m actually playing the song is very convenient. I also love when artists give actual annotations to their song. To celebrate the expansion to Android, Khalid will add annotations to all of his track to his album “American Teen.”

[Video] Zedd feat Alessia Cara “Stay”

Zedd and Alessia Cara released the video for their collaboration “Stay.” While the song is about not wanting to let go of a love, the video has an interesting take on the how one action can change everything. In the first universe, Zedd doesn’t catch the elevator in time to share it with Alessia, so they enjoy their day separately.  When he does catch the elevator, they have a fun day together, which ends unexpectedly.

The story line and message is interesting as it relates to the movie that the song is featured in, “Everything, Everything” that shows how meeting a person can change your life in ways you don’t expect.

Cashmere Cat announces “9” track list featuring Kehlani, Ariana Grande

my new album 9

A post shared by 🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱🍂🖤🐱 (@cashmerecat) on Apr 19, 2017 at 12:00pm PDT

After releasing the lead single “Wild Love” feat The Weeknd and Francis and the Lights back in August, Cashmere Cat has finally released the track list to his debut album 9 via Instagram. Denoting each track with emojis, the album will feature acts like Kehlani, Ariana Grande, Jhene Aiko and Ty Dolla $ign.

I’m excited for all of these tracks, but I’m really looking forward to the track with Ariana Grande. His previous tracks with her, “Adore” and “Be My Baby,” are amazing, so I’m looking forward to a third track

9 is set to be released April 29.

Today Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin” celebrates its 17th Anniversary

Jay Z’s, “Big Pimpin” was released 17 years ago today.

The last single from Vol. 3: The Life & Times of Sean Carter, this song got the Making The Video treatment. It was shot in Trinidad during Carnival.

This is my favorite Jay Z songs of all time.  The fun lyrics.  The cadence.  The beautiful music video and its use of white in contrast to the color of Carnival.  This song was the introduction to the opulent rap that Jay would soon be known for.

This song is also named the best rap song of 2000 by Shea Serrano in The Rap Year Book.

There was actually a lot of drama behind this song. As discussed in this article, Pimp C originally did not like the beat, and refused to travel to be in the video. Jay Z also said in his Decoded after reading these lyrics, he regretted some of the lyrics.

Despite all of this, still one of my favorite songs. Check out the video below.

Here are my picks for each category I’m familiar with. The only category that I did not vote for that I am familiar with was Best Rap Album because I did not love any of the choices.

J. Cole is platinium with no features again

j-cole-4-your-eyez-only-platinum

J. Cole 4 Your Eyez Only has been certified platinum four months after its release. His last album 2014 Forrest Hill Drive also went platinum with no features in four months.

While this is an impressive feat, I wasn’t a huge fan of this album. I listen to 2014 all the time, but I only listened to 4 once and haven’t been drawn to listen to it again. I am excited for J. Cole’s upcoming projects, including his tour and HBO documentary.

Kendrick Lamar’s April 7th arrives…with a pre-order

kendrick-lamar-album-release-date

The April 7th that Kendrick Lamar mentioned in “The Heart Part IV” has came and went, and instead of the album that people were expecting, a pre-order went up instead.

The information that was listed along with the pre-order included that the album will be 14 tracks and that Humble will be featured on the album. “The Heart Part IV” is not listed and neither is an album title. The album is expected to be released April 14.

While people felt misled for the pre order, Kendrick never said what was going to  happen on April 7th, and I highly doubted it would be a whole album. I’m also not surprised that “The Heart Part IV” is not featured on the album because that felt more like a buzz single.

You can preorder the album here.

Enjoy Coachella desert free: YouTube is live streaming some Coachella performances

2017-coachella-youtube

Coachella is live streaming some of their performances again on YouTube. As someone who has been to festivals before (Pitchfork, Lollapalooza) and have watched a lot of different festivals, including Coachella, at home, I am excited about this.

Advantages of this include it being free, you are in control of the temperature, and the food is so much cheaper. Haha. Jokes aside, a lot of time with the streaming option you get a better view than being there because the camera angels are amazing.

So far announced acts that will be on the live stream include  Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, Lorde, Bon Iver, the xx, Future, ScHoolboy Q, Two Door Cinema Club, New Order, and Gucci Mane. More information will be released closer to the date.

My picks for The MTV Movie and TV Awards 2017

rs_1024x712-170313100801-1024-mtv-movie-and-tv-awards-31317

This year, the MTV Movie Awards is becoming the MTV Movie and TV Awards, adding TV shows to the mix. Another change is that the acting categories are genderless.  The TV and movie nominees are mostly in their separate categories unless its an “event” category, like Best Kiss.

Here are my picks below. This was fun because I was familiar with a lot of the nominees. Let me know who you think should win.

MOVIE OF THE YEAR

Beauty and the Beast

Get Out

Logan

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The Edge of Seventeen

BEST ACTOR IN A MOVIE

Daniel Kaluuya – Get Out

Emma Watson – Beauty and the Beast

Hailee Steinfeld – The Edge of Seventeen

Hugh Jackman – Logan

James McAvoy – Split

Taraji P. Henson – Hidden Figures

Get Out to me was a major movie on so many levels, the acting, the story and the larger social commentary makes this movie a classic, making its an easy pick for these two categories.

SHOW OF THE YEAR

Atlanta

Game of Thrones

Insecure

Pretty Little Liars

Stranger Things

This Is Us

BEST ACTOR IN A SHOW

Donald Glover – Atlanta

Emilia Clarke – Game of Thrones

Gina Rodriguez – Jane the Virgin

Jeffrey Dean Morgan – The Walking Dead

Mandy Moore – This Is Us

Millie Bobby Brown – Stranger Things

I love Insecure, but Atlanta was so good all around. I like how the episodes can be stand alone episodes but also are apart of the serial series.  And Donald Glover acting was so subtle yet hilarious.

BEST KISS

Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome – Moonlight

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling – La La Land

Emma Watson and Dan Stevens – Beauty and the Beast

Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard – Empire

Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick – Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Such a sweet kiss that turn into such a sour situation.

BEST VILLAIN

Allison Williams – Get Out

Demogorgon – Stranger Things

Jared Leto – Suicide Squad

Jeffrey Dean Morgan – The Walking Dead

Wes Bentley – American Horror Story

I wasn’t surprised that she was the villain in the movie, but how this character really trapped all these people makes her the ultimate villan.

BEST HOST

Ellen DeGeneres – The Ellen DeGeneres Show

John Oliver – Last Week Tonight With John Oliver

RuPaul – RuPaul’s Drag Race

Samantha Bee – Full Frontal With Samantha Bee

Trevor Noah – The Daily Show

I’ve only watched some of this show, but RuPaul over presentation and concept of this show has always been amazing.

BEST DOCUMENTARY

13TH

I Am Not Your Negro

O.J.: Made in America

This Is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous

TIME: The Kalief Browder Story

I can’t believe I watched like over 6 hours of this even after I watch People v. OJ Simpson. But it offered yet another perspective to this complicated case.

BEST REALITY COMPETITION

America’s Got Talent

MasterChef Junior

RuPaul’s Drag Race

The Bachelor

The Voice

Seeing these kids stressed out is actually very amusing.

BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE

Adam Devine – Workaholics

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson – Broad City

Lil Rel Howery – Get Out

Seth MacFarlane – Family Guy

Seth Rogen – Sausage Party

Will Arnett – The LEGO Batman Movie

Lil Rel Howery was basically the voice of reason and said all the audience members thoughts within the movie. His comedic performance and a necessary lightness to the movie.

BEST HERO

Felicity Jones – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Grant Gustin – The Flash

Mike Colter – Luke Cage

Millie Bobby Brown – Stranger Things

Stephen Amell – Arrow

Taraji P. Henson – Hidden Figures

TEARJERKER

Game of Thrones – Hodor’s (Kristian Nairn) Death

Grey’s Anatomy – Meredith tells her children about Derek’s death (Ellen Pompeo)

Me Before You – Will (Sam Claflin) tells Louisa (Emilia Clarke) he can’t stay with her

Moonlight – Paula (Naomie Harris) tells Chiron (Trevante Rhodes) that she loves him

This Is Us – Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Randall (Lonnie Chavis) at karate

Write in vote for when William died on This Is Us!

NEXT GENERATION

Chrissy Metz

Daniel Kaluuya

Issa Rae

Riz Ahmed

Yara Shahidi

Her acting and writing are amazing and she brings in a unique point of view.

BEST DUO

Adam Levine and Blake Shelton – The Voice

Daniel Kaluuya and Lil Rel Howery – Get Out

Brian Tyree Henry and Lakeith Stanfield – Atlanta

Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen – Logan

Josh Gad and Luke Evans – Beauty and the Beast

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg – Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party

Huge fan of Get Out but Daniel and Lil Rel aren’t together often. Brian and Lakeith are the cutest best friends ever.

BEST AMERICAN STORY

Black-ish

Fresh Off the Boat

Jane the Virgin

Moonlight

Transparent

Funny and an honest portrayal of a black experience in America.

BEST FIGHT AGAINST THE SYSTEM

Get Out

Hidden Figures

Loving

Luke Cage

Mr. Robot

A great movie with an important message.
