With the popularity of true crime, everyone fancies themselves to be modern-day Nancy Drew. In the dark comedy, Susie Searches, a podcaster who takes justice into her own hands in order to find a missing meditation YouTuber.
The movie stars Kiersey Clemons (THE FLASH), Alex Wolff (HEREDITARY), Jim Gaffigan (CHAPPAQUIDDICK), Rachel Sennott (BOTTOMS), Ken Marino (PARTY DOWN), Alex Moffat (SNL), David Walton (NEW GIRL), and Isaac Powell (DEAR EVAN HANSEN.
I talked to director Susie Searches, who played Susie in the original short, about why she didn’t play Susie again, avoiding the “nerd makeover” trope, and how she created the heightened reality and borderline surrealism of the mystery.
