Ed Gein’s is a prolific serial killer that has inspired movies like Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. However, even though he is one of the most infamous figures in true crime, no one has heard his voice, until now. The new docuseries, Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein James Buddy Day, explores the mindset of Ed by analyzing lost interviews.

I talked to director and executive producer James Buddy Day about his first reaction to knowing the lost tapes existed and his reaction to Ed Gein’s voice, why people are obsessed with true crime, talking to a diverse group of experts, and what’s his favorite movie inspired by Ed.
