Jim Benton has been in the game for several decades and as an artist has had a multi-faceted career. He has several successful book series that he illustrated and wrote, a television show, a movie, and a thriving licensing business. No wonder he was awarded the Inkpot Award at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
I talked to Jim Benton about how he got into drawing, adding to the Batman Universe, the resurgence of Happy Bunny, the film adaption of Dear Dumb Diary, why he likes to focus on middle schoolers when writing books, and why he hasn’t gone Hollywood and has stayed in his home state of Michigan.
