Appendage, the new horror movie part of Hulu’s Huluween lineup is based on the short of the same name from Hulu’s Bit Size Halloween. Hannah has a stressful job in the fashion industry, a boyfriend and best friend who she worries have feelings for each other and a problematic relationship with her mother and past. All this stress leads to an appendage blooming on her body, a being who is the personification of all her negative thoughts. The film had its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Festival.
The film stars Hadley Robinson (Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers’ Dynasty), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re The Worst), Kausar Mohammed (The Flash), and Desmin Borges (You’re The Worst).
I talked to writer and director Anna Zlokovic about adding a twist to the horror element of twins, having the feature film stand alone from the short that starred Rachel Sennot and Eric Roberts, creating the lore and mythology of an appendage, and casting comedic actors from “You’re The Worst” and “Schitt’s Creek.”
Appendage is now streaming on Hulu.
