Would you do anything to prove your love to the world, including ripping off a fingernail? Writer/director Christos Nikou (Apples) explores this idea in his new film Fingernails, where a procedure exists that with fingernail extraction, you can prove if a couple is in love. Anna (Jessie Buckley) has already completed this test with her partner Ryan (Jeremy Allen White). Still, after working at the love institute with Amir, she starts questioning whether you can be in love with two people at once.

The film stars Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter), Riz Ahmed (The Night Of), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Luke Wilson (Stargirl), and Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek).

I talked to writer and director Christos Nikou about people’s need to prove love to others, if he thinks people would take the test in real life, and why he hates dating apps.

Fingernails premieres in select theatres on October 27th and on Apple TV + on November 3rd.
