When I established fresh pair of iis in 2015, I never could have imagined how much it would grow year over year. In 2023 I did press coverage for South by Southwest, ATX TV Festival, and San Diego Comic Con, while covering Tribeca for a second year. My first red carpet coverage was for the world premiere of American Born Chinese, and did several in-person interviews for the first time in my career. While coverage had to change a bit during the dual actors/writers’ strike, I got opporutnites to talk to many different creators. I also got to shoot the Reneé Rapp concert. Personally, I’m so proud of myself, but also love the dedication that my audience has shown me this year.
Here are my top eight interviews this year.
1. Swagger’s Isaiah Hill & Quvenzhané Wallis – Season 2
Released: June
Isaiah Hill & Quvenzhané Wallis were some of the first people I interviewed for this website during season 1, so I was so happy when they remembered me and I got to talk to them again! This show was one-of-a-kind, and I’m so sad it got canceled a few days ago.
2. Mortal Kombat 1’s Yuri Lowenthal
Released: September
My first video game interview for one of the biggest game releases of the year happened during my first comic-con. Yuri was so kind and loved hearing his point of view on Mortal Kombat.
3. BMF’s Da’Vinchi, La La Anthony & Sydney Mitchell-Season 2
Released: January
BMF always has a soft spot in my heart. It was my first junket and is based in my hometown. I have talked to Da’Vinchi before but was great to talk to Sydney and LaLa as well!
4. Beetlejuice: The Musical’s Isabella Esler & Justin Collete
Released: February
My top musical interview of not only this year, but overall! This was my favorite musical I saw this year, and to be able to talk to the stars was incredible.
5. Growing Up Hip Hop’s Egypt and Sam
Released: January
Egypt and Sam were such an open and sweet couple! I appreciated their vulnerability, honesty, and humor.
6. Fitting In’s Maddie Ziegler, KI Griffin & D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai
Released: March
One of the movies I was looking forward to most during my first festival, SXSW, was Fitting In (formerly known as Bloody Hell). So when I got the chance to interview the stars virtually, I was over the moon. They were so funny, kind and sweet. I can’t gush about them enough.
7. BMF’s Demetrius ‘Lil Meech’ Flenory Jr & Myles Truitt-Season 2
Released: January
Talking to anyone from BMF is a treat and is always one of the most popular content on this channel, so not surprised this is in the Top 8. It was fun to talk to Lil Meech and Myles together, especially how their journey went in season 2.
8. Americana’s Zahn McClarnon
Released: April
As a huge fan of Reservation Dogs, I was nervous to talk to Zahn McClarnon. So much so that it took me a minute to realize he was joking when he said he didn’t know D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai! Very fun conversation overall.
