While we know how Ted, a stuffed teddy bear, became real, and what he and his best friend, John, are like in their adult lives, we don’t know what it was like for them growing up in suburban Boston in the 90s. With the Ted prequel series on Peacock, we find out about teenage John and how his family and neighborhood influenced him to become the man, and Ted the bear, they grow up to be.

I talked to Max Burkholder (Parenthood), who plays Young John, about learning a Boston accent, transitioning into comedy, not trying to copy Mark Wahlberg, and having a stuffed bear as a scene partner.

Ted is now streaming on Peacock.
