Tokyo Vice is back with season 2. After the tumultuous events of the season 1 finale, we see Jake (Ansel Elgort), Hiroto (Ken Watanabe), Samantha (Rachel Keller), and Sato (Show Kasamatsu) try to loosen the grip that the yakuza have over their lives.

The series stars Golden Globe® nominee Ansel Elgort, Academy Award® nominee Ken Watanabe, Academy Award® nominee Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Show Kasamatsu, Ayumi Ito, and new series regulars Yosuke Kubozuka and Miki Maya.

I talked to creator J.T. Rogers and executive producer and director Alan Poul about not Americanizing the show and having characters speak Japanese, how shows like Narcos, Money Heist, and Squid Games, help paved the way for non-English shows in the States, Samantha transitioning from hostess to mama-san and Sato’s conflicting feelings of being a part of the yakuza.

Tokyo Vice Season 2 premieres February 8th on Max.
