Prince Amine sound is just as multi-faceted as his background. Born in Morroco to a Moroccan mother and Antiguan father, he grew up in Spain until moving to Canada at age nine, you can hear the influences of where he has grown up and traveled to in his music. His music is a mix of Afro-Beats, and R&B, with a dash of Arabic and Latin vibes.
While this is Prince Amine first year as an official SXSW artist, he’s not a stranger to the festival. In 2022, he performed at an official showcase as the only international act and won best performance.
I talked to Prince Amine about how his multicultural background influences his music and who he is as a person, how the Montreal music scene is different than Toronto’s, how his new single “De Donda” came about, his favorite song to perform live, and his pre and post-show rituals.
You can listen to Prince Amine on Amazon Music and other streaming services.
SXSW Performance Mar 13, 2024 9:00pm – 9:25pm CT Flamingo Cantina.
