Mean Girls: The Musical, based on the movie, sees Cady coming to America after growing up in the African savanna. Once realizing high school can be as ruthless as the jungle, she is adopted by two outcasts, Damien and Janice. At first playing a silly game to get intel on the popular girls, called the Plastics, she becomes one herself.

I talked to Joshua Morrisey, who plays Damian, about how watching a bootleg version of “Legally Blonde: The Musical” got him into musical theatre, if he thinks Janice and Damien are real friends to Cady, how he wishes Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” was in the musical, and what he loves to do in each city he visits on each tour.

Mean Girls is currently at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit until November 24th. Get tickets here.
