Dope Thief, the crime drama mini-series from executive producer Ridley Scott and starring Brian Tyree Henry, is about Ray and Manny, two best friends who pretend to be DEA agents to steal drugs and money. Theresa is Ray’s mother figure and his incarcerated father’s girlfriend, and Michelle is his father’s lawyer who is trying to get him out on compassionate release. Both women have a special relationship with Ray and help him when his actions unwittingly get him into bigger trouble than expected.

Dope Thief stars Brian Tyree Henry, Wagner Moura, Marin Ireland, Kate Mulgrew, Nesta Cooper, Amir Arison, and Ving Rhames.

I talked to Kate Mulgrew, who plays Theresa, about slapping Brian Tyree Henry, working with Shermy the dog, and how Theresa reconciles loving Bart when he’s hurt Ray so much. I asked Nesta Cooper, who plays Michelle, about why Ray can open up to Michelle and how Michelle knows so much about the criminal life, even though she lives a pretty innocent life.

Dope Thief is now streaming with new episodes on Fridays on Apple TV +.

You can buy the book the series is based on Dope Thief by Dennis Tofaya on Amazon.
