Godfather of Harlem is back, and while Malcom X is gone, his influence of Bumpy Johnson is still there. Bumpy is out of the drug business is trying to build better Harlem, by and for Black people, but the mafia wants a cut of the business. Newcomer Frank Lucas is also making trouble for everyone. Can Bumpy make the “Las Harlem” of his dream?

Godfather of Harlem stars Forest Whitaker, Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Erik LaRay Harvey, Michael Raymond James, Vincent D’Onofrio, Whoopi Goldberg, Elvis Nolasco, Erik Palladino, and Rome Flynn.

I talked to Godfather of Harlem creator Chris Brancato about if Bumpy always needs to have a fight, why the mafia needs to have a cut of Bumpy’s new business venture, how Frank Lucas and Bumpy are alike and similar, and Bumpy moving away from the drug business and what that looks like.

Godfather of Harlem is now streaming on MGM + with new episodes on Sundays.
