While BMF was big in the narcotics industry, as we see in Season 4 of the series, Meech and Terry also influenced the music industry in the late ’90s and early 2000s before getting incarcerated. This season, they help Purdy, an artist with a terrible manager who doesn’t want to sing anymore and wants to get into rapping.

I talked to BMF’s music supervisor, Derryck “Big Tank” Thornton, about how each city this season of BMF takes place in (Detroit, St. Louis, and Atlanta) sounded in 1995, his thoughts on the 1995 Source Awards, his favorite era of music, and BMF’s effect on the music industry.
