In Bird in Hand, Bird goes back home in order to plan her wedding with her mother. But she also has other plans, to finally meet her father. Things don’t go as planned and Bird some becomes buried in her lies. She finds solace in her neighbor, Dennis, who feels connected to her, despite being married.

Bird in Hand stars Alisha Wainwright, Christine Lahti, James Le Gros, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Jeffrey Nordling, and K. Todd Freeman. It had its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.

I talked to writer and director Melody C. Roscher about how her personal experience of growing up bi-racial and not having her biological father around inspired the film, how she triggered herself in order to write the film, why Bird is not honest, why Carlotta’s 16th birthday dress is significant to both Bird and Carlotta, and why Carlotta can’t stay in one place.
