In season 4, episode 4 of BMF, Lucille, Nicole, and Terry visit Meech in Atlanta while also touring Morris Brown, the college Nicole will be attending. They stop by a church that’s completely different from what they’re used to. There are ATMs in the lobby, people sweeping up money offered in the aisle, and Pastor Coleman emphasizes that money is a root of all evil, not the root. During the visit, Lucille receives advice on how to run her own church.

I talked to Clifton Powell, who plays Pastor Coleman, about if he’s ever been to a church like Pastor Coleman’s, what it was like shooting those scenes, how Pastor Coleman is a capatalist who has an intersting interpration of the Bible, and how he hope his character evolves and shows a more charitable side.

BMF airs on Fridays on Starz.
