The ‘Burbs, the new thriller series based on the 1989 Tom Hanks movies, stars Keke Palmer as Samira, a city transplant who moves to her husband’a old suburban neighborhood with their newborn. But she quickly becomes intrigued with the house across the street, the guy who moves in, and the story about the dead teen from 20 years ago. Her and her group of neighbors soon try to solve the mystery, while trying to keep some secrets of their own hidden.

The ‘Burbs stars Keke Palmer, Jack Whitehall, Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar.

I talked to series creator Celeste Hughey about why Samira warms up to the suburbs so quickly, how her own neighbors influenced the characters, what she would want to have in her bunker as a teen, and what other Tom Hanks character would she love to see Keke take on.
