[Photos] [Review] Steve Lacy Showcases the Beauty of Listening to Albums Front to Back With Oh Yeah? Tour

Steve Lacy had everyone come on, come on, come on to Michigan Lottery Amphitheater for his Oh Yeah? Tour.

Steve opened up the show with the title track of his latest album Oh Yeah? He then let the audience know that after playing around with the setlist at a couple shows, he wanted to play the album front to back so that they would experience it as he intended. He said he hasn’t done it this since Apollo XXI and after this tour they might not hear this album this way again.

I loved that he approached the setlist this way. There’s been a tons of discussions that albums are a lost art and that people just make songs and snippets to go viral on social media. Steve himself catapulted to fame when “Bad Habits” went viral on social media. I think it showed that he can make a complete body of work that needs to be appreciated. I tend to listen to albums front to back instead of individual songs so this was perfect for me.

In the second half of the show, Steve played a mix of songs for him previous albums and from his time with The Internet. After playing “Curse,” a song from The Internet Ego Death, he shared that he wrote that when he was 18 or 19 and after he wrote it he was sad because he thought he would never write a song better than that. 10 years later, Steve has proven that he can and the he has a lot more to say.

Check out more photos and the setlist below.
