Best Taylor Swift Song From Each of Her Famous Relationships

swift-now-att-07sept17

Taylor Swift is known for her high profile relationships and how they lend material to her music. But with so many famous muses and songs, what are the best from each relationship? Below I picked the best. Some choices are surprising (spoiler alert, “All Too Well” is not on the list).

Joe Jonas

“Holy Ground” from Red (2012)

Joe Jonas was one of Taylor’s first famous muses, with her adding the song “Forever and Always” as a late addition to her album Fearless.  While most of her songs about Joe were negative (he did break up with her on a 15 second phone call), this was a positive reflection of their relationship and appreciating what they had, no matter how fleeting it was.

Taylor Lautner

“Back To December” from Speak Now (2010)

I’m pretty sure this is the only song about Taylor Lautner. What’s unique about this song is it is the first time that Taylor admits she was at fault in a relationship. At that time, it was a unique point of view from her.

John Mayer

“Story of Us” from Speak Now (2010)

When people think of a Taylor Swift song about John Mayer, they usually think of “Dear John,” which was also on this album. However, I enjoyed the juxtaposition of an upbeat song about a tragic relationship.

Jake Gyllenhaal

“Almost Do” from Red (2012)

I know, this choice was surprising since when everyone thinks Jake, they think of “All Too Well,” but honestly I don’t really like that song too much. I feel like “Almost Do” is more relatable because everyone has gone through the feeling of wanting to call an ex, but not wanting to risk putting yourself in that vulnerable place again. I will say that Jake Gyllenhall relationship probably made some of my favorite Taylor Swift love songs because it was just so dramatic and sad, but very detailed.

Connor Kennedy

“Begin Again” from Red (2012)

This song could be consider both a Jake Gyllenhall and Connor Kennedy song because it is about the end of one relationship and the beginning of a new one. This tied with “Everything Has Changed” but what makes this one stand it is the realization you can find joy with someone else after heartbreak.

Harry Styles

“Style” from 1989 (2013)

One of my favorite Taylor Swift song. Just a fun song about a relationship that seems to never end. I like how the song really isn’t that serious and puts you in a good mood.

Calvin Harris

“Dancing With Our Hands Tied” from reputation (2017)

Probably the only song about Calvin that she has made so far. I like that its a bop, and again I like that juxtaposition about a relationship that is doomed to fail. I also like how it is revealing about how she felt the relationship wouldn’t work out because of outside factors.

Tom Hiddleston

“I Did Something Bad” from reputation (2017)

Actually, I don’t like this song, but I do like what it reveals about her relationship with Tom Hiddleston. The lyric

“I never trust a playboy
But they love me
So I fly him all around the world
And I let them think they saved me
They never see it comin’
What I do next
This is how the world works
You gotta leave before you get left”

seems like its a nod to the rumor that she broke up with Tom because he wanted to be too public.

Joe Alwyn

“End Game” from reputation (2017)

I just enjoy “End Game.” I like the lightness of the song and what seems like a fun relationship.
