One of my favorite things is seeing an artist live right before they explode. That’s what Tate McRae’s tour feels like right now. Just weeks away from releasing her debut album, I Used To Think I Could Fly, Tate already has a strong enough resume to headline a tour. Performing singles and songs from her EPs, Tate’s show is the moment before the moment when Tate then is known by just her first name, like Ariana, Taylor, and Olivia.

Her opening act was UK artist Mimi Webb. Performing songs off her EP, Seven Shades of Heartbreak, Mimi looked like London’s answer to Malibu Barbie in her hot pink attire. She held her own in front of the sold-out venue, which she noted was the largest crowd she has performed in front of so far. Many audience members already knew the words to her songs. My favorite song was her latest single “House on Fire.”

Tate opened the show with her 2019 song “stupid.” Of course, she showed off her years of dance training with choreography that could make even her most melancholy song dance-worthy. Her setlist spanned her entire career so far, including the first song she released on YouTube, “One Day.” to the live debut of her latest single “chaotic.” My favorite song was “You,” her song with Troye Sivan and Regard.

Be sure to take out the time to visit the merch table. I got a signed poster for $20, but t-shirts are $35 and hoodies are $60.
