While the Power Universe is known for the drama, murder, betrayal, and deals that go south, it’s equally known for its music. From the iconic original Power theme song that when they tried to change it, fan backlash caused it to be changed, back, to Tommy’s Motown music when riding in his Mustang, music is an integral part of the show.

I talked to Derryk “Big Tank” Thornton, who is the music supervisor for the Power Universe and shows like BMF, The Chi, and Swagger, about how he approaches each show, Shazam emails him each week to identify songs from the show, which Power Book IV: Force character’s music taste is most similar to him, and his favorite Power theme song.
