Diarra From Detroit, the new BET + dark comedy that originally premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, is about Diarra, a newly divorced middle school teacher who just had an amazing first Tinder date. But after her date, Chris, doesn’t text her back, she assumes he went missing, not that she’s been ghosting. She drags her friends on a mission to find her Chris, who might actually be a person who’s been missing since 1995. Created by Detroit native Diarra Kilpatrick, the show is infused with Detroit energy, attitude, and perseverance.
The series stars Diarra Kilpatrick, Morris Chestnut, Claudia Logan, Dominque Perry, Bryan Terrell Clark, Shannon Wallace, Jon Chaffin, and guest star Phylicia Rashad.
I talked to Diarra Kilpatrick, Jon Chaffin, & Shannon Wallace about the beauty and complexity of Detroit, channeling rage into an Eminem song, and if they would help a friend hunt someone down who ghosted them.
Diarra From Detroit is now streaming on BET +.
