My Lady Jane is a retelling of Lady Jane Grey with some liberties taken. For example, there are some supernatural twists, Jane isn’t beheaded, and there are some pop-culture influences, with references to movies like Clueless. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
My Lady Jane stars Emily Bader as Jane Grey, Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve) as Guildford Dudley, Jordan Peters (Pirates) as King Edward, Dominic Cooper (Preacher) as Lord Seymour, Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth) as Jane’s mother, Lady Frances Grey, and Rob Brydon (The Trip) as Lord Dudley, Guildford’s father, Jim Broadbent (The Duke) as the Duke of Leicester, Jane’s uncle, Henry Ashton (Creation Stories) as Guildford’s brother, Stan, and Isabella Brownson (Napoleon) and Robyn Betteridge (Wheel of Time) as Jane’s sisters, Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers) and Abbie Hern (Enola Holmes 2) as the King’s sisters Princess Mary and Princess Bess respectively, and Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary) as Susannah. Creator Gemma Burgess (Brooklyn Girls trilogy) is co-showrunner/executive producer and Meredith Glynn (The Boys) is co-showrunner/executive producer.
I talked to Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn about color-blind casting, which animal they would transform into, what movie character they would love to have in Jane’s world, and if they think Jane’s stubbornness gets in the way of her happiness.
