Emperor of Ocean Park, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is about the Garland family dealing with the aftermath of the death of their father, Judge Oliver Garland. But we see this isn’t the only obstacle the family has had to deal with. The Judge has also had to deal with a failed Supreme Court attempt and they also tragically lost their little sister at a young age. All of these events matter when people come to ask questions about “the arrangement.”

I talked to director Damian Marcano about shooting in Chicago, how he distinguished the multiple timelines visually, and why Addison seems so emotionally detached from the family.

The Emperor of Ocean Park airs on Sundays on MGM+.
