Hotel Cocaine is based on the Hotel Mutiny, a real hotel in Miami that was a hotspot in the ’70s where all the stars would go to party. The fictionalized version of this hotel on the show is the backdrop of a lot of drama between recently reunited brothers Roman and Nestor and hotel owner Burton who is in financial trouble. Hotel Cocaine had its premiere at the ATX TV Festival.

Hotel Cocaine stars Danny Pino, Yul Vazquez, Mark Feuerstein, Corina Bradley, Laura Gordon and Tania Watson

I talked to creator Chris Brancato and executive producer Maurice Compte about how the show is loosely inspired by Maurice’s dad, who was the manager of the Hotel Mutiny, how they avoid perpetuating stereotypes about Black and Latino people when making shows like this, and if there can be a number one and number two when a family works together.

Hotel Cocaine is now streaming on MGM +.
