“1992,” the new drama written by “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” creator Sacha Penn is set during the night of unrest following the Rodney King verdict. While the city is dealing with the verdict, there is also a heist going on. Mercer, and his son, Antoine, just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. But Mercer will do anything to protect his son.

“1992” stars Tyrese Gibson, Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, Oleg Taktarov, with Scott Eastwood, and Ray Liotta.

I talked to Christopher A’mmanuel, who plays Antoine, about working with Tyrese and the late Ray Liotta, how his music and acting intertwine, and why he avoids method acting.

1992 is in theaters on August 30th.
