The Pitt, the new medical drama from max, takes place in the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Underfunded, understaffed, and packed, vetran doctors like Dr. Robby will have to work along interns and medical students who this is their first day on the job. Each episode takes place over an hour of a 15-hour shift.

Dr. Trinity Santos is an intern who is cocky and wants to get her hands dirty. While she isn’t great at listening, she has no fear and really wants to do a chest plug. When she finally gets a chance, she drops a scalpel on a doctor’s foot, puncturing her.

I talked to Isa Brionies, who plays Dr. Santos, about going to “medical BootCamp” to prepare for this role, the backstory they came up with for her character, why Dr. Santos is so brash, how her mistake affects her the rest of the shift, why there is so much tension between Dr. Santos and Dr. Lengdon, and if her character really wants to be friends with Dr. Javardi or is she using her.

The Pitt is now streaming on max, with new episodes on Thursdays.
