Reeling, which had its premiere at this year’s SXSW, is about Ryan, who after a tragic accident has lost most of his memories and has difficulty with day-to-day life. His relationship with his siblings is troubled, especially with his brother John, who keeps him at a distance at best. Things come to a head at his sister’s Meg’s birthday party.

Reeling stars Ryan Wuestewald, Hans Christopher, Nikki DeParis, Fabrizio Alliata, Makena Miller, Nyah Juliano, and Michael Carter.

I talked to the co-writer and director Yana Alliata and cast members Ryan Wuestewald, who plays Ryan, Hans Christopher, who plays John, Nikki DeParis, who plays Meg, about what they think their characters were like before Ryan’s accident, each character’s current relationship with Ryan, and why a tarot reading scene was important story point in the movie.
