Despite a hot and smoky night in Detroit, Louis Tomilson concert was a refreshing as lemonade for his How Did We Get Here? Tour.

The Beaches opened up the show for Louis. Riding off the high on the new found popularity after being named dropped in the TV show “Off Campus,” the ladies showed they have more to offer than just their song “Edge of the Earth.” They performed songs off their albums No Hard Feelings and Blame My Ex while talking about failed situationships, exes and being neighbors of Detroit (they are our friendly Canadian neighbors). They finished off their set by doing their dance to “Blame Brett” with the other opening act Picture Parlour.

Louis Tomilson showed you don’t have to save the best for last and you can have your dessert, or lemonade first, when it came to opening his set. His first song, “Lemonade,” would usually be reserved for the closing song or encore, but he opened the show with it. He also let out the tour confetti during this song, usually let out and the end of the show. It really set the vibe that this was going to be a fun show.

Louis keep the fun, lighter feeling of this album, “How Did We Get Here” with the setlist, keeping up the breezy, easy going and fun vibes like the trip of Costa Rica that inspired them album. He wasn’t afraid to go heavy, with songs like “Saturday” and singing One Direction’s “Night Changes,” which feels heavier after the loss of Liam.

While its not foreign for artists to thank their fans during the show, Louis took several moments to thanks the audience for coming to show the show. What felt different from his appreciation is him emphasizing that he wouldn’t have this life without every single one of us. It felt different, as if he still remembers each and every day just being a person fighting for a dream and that people taking out the time to support him is the thing making this reality possible. It was really sweet.

Louis asked us to put our phones down for “Don’t Jump The Gun,” which he says he usually get an eye roll for. Most of the audience, including myself, followed this request, and it felt nice to really be in the moment and enjoy the concert, the atmosphere, and know that it’s just in the camera roll of my memories.
